Last year I asked Derbyshire’s residents to tell me their priorities for policing and community safety. These priorities formed the basis for my Police and Crime Plan.
You made it clear that you want to see those offences which cause the most harm, such as serious violence including violence against women and girls, tackled effectively.
You wanted to see anti-social behaviour reduced, you wanted more police visibility and an effective strategy to prevent crime such as drug dealing and support those battling substance misuse which in some cases drives people to criminal behaviour.
You wanted to see enforcement making our roads safer no matter where you live in our city and county. You wanted to see the fight against online crime and rural crime strengthened, and you wanted to see offenders brought to justice swiftly alongside a better service for victims of crime.
The Chief Constable has assured me that, given the necessary resources, she will strive and do all she can to protect our services.
That’s why I’m asking for your input as I set the budget for policing Derbyshire in the coming year, so that we can allocate our funds in line with your views.
The funding for policing comes via a grant from the Government and the amount paid towards policing by local people as part of their overall council tax. As your PCC I am required to set that amount – although the Government puts a limit on any increase.
I would be grateful if you would spend a couple of minutes to tell me how much extra funding you are prepared to contribute towards policing in Derbyshire.
This is our community, your police service and as your PCC, I want to make sure we deliver for our residents. I believe that if we work together, we can build a safer and stronger Derbyshire, so I welcome your views.
