Police and Crime Commissioner Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts has formally commenced the recruitment process for Derbyshire Constabulary’s next Chief Constable.
The recruitment process follows the retirement of Chief Constable Rachel Swann in May this year, with Simon Blatchly OBE currently serving as Temporary Chief Constable.
Setting out her expectations for the role, the Commissioner said she is seeking an exceptional leader who inspires confidence, leads with integrity and understands that public trust is earned through openness, professionalism and consistent delivery.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Commissioner to deliver the priorities set out in the Police and Crime Plan, which was shaped by the views of our residents, partners and stakeholders from across Derby and Derbyshire.
The Commissioner said she is looking for a Chief Constable who shares her commitment to making Derbyshire safer to live, work, study and visit, and who can lead an organisation dedicated to fighting crime, protecting the public, preventing harm, supporting victims and ultimately delivering justice.
“This is an exciting opportunity to lead Derbyshire Constabulary at an important time for policing,” said PCC Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts.
“The successful candidate will need to understand the needs of our communities, support and inspire our workforce, strengthen partnerships and ensure the force continues to deliver an effective, visible and trusted policing service for all.

Applicants will be subject to a robust, open and transparent selection process, with shortlisted candidates undertaking a comprehensive assessment programme.
The Commissioner said Derbyshire’s next Chief Constable must be capable of leading in a complex and evolving environment, balancing the immediate complex demands of policing with a strong focus on prevention, early intervention, enforcement and partnership working.
She also emphasised that because many of the challenges facing communities cannot be solved through enforcement alone, close collaboration with partners across the public, voluntary and community sectors will be essential.
“The successful Chief Constable will lead policing across a county where people rightly expect a service that is visible, responsive and connected to local concerns,” she added. “They must be committed to working with communities, empowering our workforce and building strong partnerships to deliver the best possible outcomes for Derbyshire.”
