Statistics, including the number of visits made, where to, how many detained persons where talked to and what issues were raised are retained by the Scheme Manager and regularly reviewed by the Commissioner, Chief Inspector in charge of Custody Suites and, of course, the Independent Custody Visitors.
Reports are prepared and presented for scrutiny at the public meeting of the Strategic Priorities Assurance Board (SPA) twice per year, normally in April and October. The reports can be found on the meetings section of our Website.
Two reports are presented;
Custody Visiting Update
This report provides a breakdown of visits to each of the suites including the amount of visits and the number of detainees seen, both for each individual custody suite and for the county as a whole. The report also outlines the days and time periods of every visit to each of the custody suites.
In addition, this report provides a summary of issues raised which did not require follow up. These issues are recorded and monitored by the Scheme Manager who then draws together issues and identifies any trends emerging from the visits.
The report also outlines issues that were raised that required follow up and the Scheme Manager drew this to the attention of those in a position to respond, ensure that appropriate action is taken and provide appropriate feedback.
Custody Record Reviewing Update Report
At the end of every month a report is compiled presenting the findings from the Custody Record Reviews. The report is then shared with the DPCC (Custody Visiting Portfolio Lead) and also with the Ch Insp. for Custody and three Custody Inspectors.
The report outlines the output of the reviews and provides comparisons on set criteria on a month by month basis.
A Custody Record Reviewing Update Report is presented to the meeting of the Strategic Priorities Assurance Board.
