Code of practice 2015
From the Revised Code of Practice for victims of crime, all Police and Crime Commissioner’s now have a legal duty to consult with victims in setting the policing priorities in their area, ensuring victims needs are identified and met. The PCC for Derbyshire is dedicated to meet this requirement and help victims and witnesses receive the support they need within Derbyshire to enable them to cope and recover.
Commissioning Services Locally
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire has commissioned a range of support services for victims of crime who reside in the county. These CORE services include support for general victims, young people, domestic abuse victims, and serious sexual assault victims. In addition to these services, there is also dedicated support for victims of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and a restorative justice support service.

General Victim and Youth Services

From April 2016, Derbyshire Victim Services has been the commissioned provider of general victim services to those affected by crime in the county.Derbyshire Victim Services, who are ran by the independent charity Remedi, work across the county to support victims of crime and form part of the PCC’s wider CORE team. The CORE team is a group of organisations that have agreed to work together to give the best possible support to victims in Derbyshire. Remedi have a local team of dedicated workers that are supported by volunteers. They will help anyone who has been a victim of crime whether or not it has been reported or not reported to the police irrespective of when the crime occurred.
Remedi have also been commissioned by the Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver a targeted support service for young people who have been a victim of crime. Young people aged up to 18 will be able to access specialist support through the gotyourback website or the main contact number found above.
Restorative Justice Services

As from June 2015, Remedi were commissioned to deliver victim initiated Restorative Justice services to those affected by crime in the Derbyshire area. Restorative Practitioners are trained to deliver Restorative Justice across a range of offence types, both pre and post court. Victims of crime are offered the opportunity to meet with the person responsible for committing the offence against them. Involvement in Restorative Justice can also involve indirect exchanges of communication via restorative practitioners. Engagement in Restorative Justice is completely voluntary and participant led.

From January 2020 Catch22 has been commissioned by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire, Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council to protect and support children and young people who are at risk of Child Exploitation (CRE) in Derby and across Derbyshire. They deliver bespoke support and interventions to children and young people to build resilience and aspiration, empowering them to take control of their lives and supporting them to stay safe.
Domestic Abuse Services

From April 2016, the charity Refuge became the commissioned provider of services to people experiencing domestic violence in the city area. This service provides free confidential, non-judgemental and independent support and advice for both men and women living in Derby City. Referrals to this service can be made by yourself, friends or family and professionals as long as they have your consent. The charity Refuge also offer outreach and resettlement support to women and children, who have experienced domestic violence, stalking, honour based violence, trafficking, forced marriage and female genital mutilation.

From April 2016, Derbyshire Domestic Abuse services became the commissioned provider of services to people who have experienced domestic violence in the county council area of Derbyshire (which excludes Derby City). This organisation offers a personalised support service which can help with safety plans, the court process, refuge, counselling and provide access to Independent Domestic Violence Advisor’s (IDVAs). In addition, Derbyshire Domestic Abuse services can also provide information about local advice centres and helplines.

From April 2016, the charity SV2 will be the commissioned provider of services to victims of sexual assault and violence throughout Derbyshire. SV2 offers a wide range of support including counselling, therapy and an independent advocacy service for both children and families.
The CORE website
The CORE website has been designed as an online tool helping to connect vulnerable people to a wealth of local and national organisations that can provide assistance. It also provides information about how to report a crime to Derbyshire Constabulary, Crimestoppers and Fearless. It was launched on 15th December 2015 and funded by the PCC’s office.
