Joint Statement from the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable of Derbyshire Constabulary

19 December 2025

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic incident on Bondi Beach. We recognise the significant impact this and other recent events, both in England and overseas, have had on Jewish communities here in Derbyshire.

We are aware there are community safety concerns, and heightened feelings of anxiety expressed by residents and community representatives. We are continuing to work closely with our Jewish communities, as well as other faith groups, to provide reassurance, support and ensure a visible policing presence where needed.

We take all reports of hate crime and hate speech seriously and will take appropriate action against anyone who is acting in a way to deliberately target and cause offence to other members of the community, particularly during public demonstrations.

We remain committed to ongoing engagement with residents and community representatives and will continue to monitor emerging risks to ensure Derbyshire remains a safe and inclusive place for everyone.
