Visiting Statistics :
The statistics, including the number of visits made, where to, how many detained persons were spoken to and what issues were raised are retained by the Scheme Manager and regularly reviewed by the Commissioner, Chief Inspector in charge of Custody Suites and, of course, the Independent Custody Visitors.
Reports are prepared and presented for scrutiny at the public meeting of the Strategic Priorities Assurance Board (SPA) twice per year, normally in April and October. The reports can be found on the meetings section of the PCC Website.
The Output Report provides an update on the two different aspects of custody oversight in Derbyshire:
Custody Observations Report
This report provides a breakdown of the number of visits to each of the suites within the County.
The report also provides detail on issues highlighted and good practice noted during volunteer visits, which includes the below areas:
- Booking In
- Risk Assessments
- Release
- Stock/Custody Arrangements/Environment
- Vulnerabilities
- Detainee Care
Custody Record Reviewing Update Report
The report provides an update on the findings of the Custody Record Reviews and focuses on two different vulnerable categories of Detainees within Custody. The vulnerable categories that have been focussed on previously are Mental Health, Young People, Females, and Immigration Detainees.
The report outlines the output of the reviews which includes detail on:
- General Detention and Rights
- Appropriate Adult Provision
- Internpreter Provision
- Solicitor Provision
- Female Officer allocation for female detainees
- Liaison and Diversion provision.
Quarterly Reports from the Independent Custody Visiting Scheme
Every three months a report is compiled which provides volunteer information including the number of visits made, days and times of the weekly visits to custody were made along with a summary of all issues raised:
