Youngsters get wheels in motion at new urban activity

26 October 2021

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster met youngsters and youth workers after dropping in on a new urban sports roadshow in Dronfield.

Commissioner Angelique Foster has provided funding to the Extreme Wheels Roadshow in Dronfield to help keep young people active and engaged, and to tackle antisocial behaviour in the area.

The events, delivered in partnership with North East Derbyshire Community Safety Partnership, are being held every Wednesday in Sindelfingen Park, Dronfield, between 6pm and 8pm and includes Skatepark, Laser Tag, Body Zorbing, Drift Trikes, KMX Karts and BMX Sidehacks.

Commissioner Angelique Foster visited the scheme to see how youngsters are benefitting from the free activities on offer and listen to feedback from staff.

“The Extreme Wheels Roadshows are already a huge hit with young people in this area and clearly gaining lots of interest. These events have also been warmly received by parents.

“Antisocial behaviour is a worry for local people, not just in Dronfield but across the county. It’s important to me that communities receive the support they need to help tackle local problems. Working with the local police, I’m keen to support activities that have proven to make a difference.”

North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Alan Powell said, “The Extreme Wheels Roadshows are hugely popular and are a fantastic way to engage with our younger members of our community.”

“The activities on offer are a great way to have fun, meet friends and stay safe.”

The Community Safety Partnership has been working closely with the local Safer Neighbourhood Team to engage local youths and break down any barriers that might exist between young people at the Police.

The sessions have been funded by NEDDC Community Partnership Fund, provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner.
