Speed Indicator Device Scheme

Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) are a type of electronic vehicle activated sign used on the public highway.

Speeding is a nationwide issue that causes increased accidents, noise pollution, and air pollution. Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) offer traffic management solutions in reducing vehicle speeds to create safer and cleaner roads. They are electric signs which display a message or speed when triggered by vehicles travelling at excessive speeds. They are intended to supplement rather than replace the traditional signs and lines and are aimed at addressing specific road safety problems.

Applications to this scheme can only be made for local Authority areas which fall within the County Council area NOT the City.

Local parish, town, or district councils can apply to purchase signs in line with the specification for use on the public highway.

The approval that is required for the release of the funding from the PCC is an approved Objects in the Highway License agreement (OIHL) with Derbyshire County Council (DCC). The completed OIHL includes the street lighting approval certificate that permits the Parish Council to attach an object to a Street Lighting column, written approval from your Local County Councillor and approval from the DCC Traffic Engineer.

This grant fund is now closed.
