Youth Summit six months on report

On Wednesday 24th September Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Charles hosted a Youth Summit to highlight  work carried out by his Office throughout 2013/14.

Significant findings from the Commissioner’s Youth Survey and youth engagement consultations were discussed during the conference in South Normanton, demonstrating some of the different concerns that younger people have about crime compared to all-embracing age groups.

The event was attended by young delegates from a range of youth organisations however it was mainly directed at practitioner’s to consider the engagement findings that had already taken place throughout the year.

Topics covered during the day were diverse and included pre-court work and the benefits of reducing first-time entrants into the criminal justice system, diversion and crime prevention initiatives, cyber safety, drugs and child sexual exploitation.

Speakers and discussion leaders included Principals from secondary schools, senior Police Officers, Council leaders, the Head of the County Youth Offending Service, Community Safety leads, and members of the Commissioner’s Office.

Key themes for partners to consider included furthering positive collective practice, greater sharing of information, building consistent educational messages and possible areas for collaborative commissioning.
