Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has today launched his search for the county’s next Chief Constable, it has been confirmed.
The successful candidate will replace Peter Goodman, who has announced his retirement after a 32-year career in policing, and will be joining a high-performing force that encompasses some of the country’s most stunning national parks.
Mr Dhindsa said he was looking for an inspirational new leader who can match his, and the force’s, ambition and vision to deliver the highest possible standards of policing for local people.
As well as having the ability to adapt to new and emerging challenges, a passion for partnership-working and the drive to innovate, the new Chief Constable must also strive for diversity in all its forms.
“Derbyshire is not only home to some of the most spectacular natural scenery in the UK but it also enjoys an enviable position as one of the safest counties too,” explained Mr Dhindsa.
“However, like everywhere else, it has its issues with crime and we are looking for a formidable leader who has the passion and vision to keep Derbyshire’s communities safe and build on the force’s excellent reputation and performance. The successful candidate will work with me to seek appropriate funding for policing in Derbyshire, which will enable us to continue to increase police numbers.
“We are immensely proud of Peter’s contribution to policing over the course of his 32-year career and would like to thank him for his commitment and service.
“We can expect a busy year as we move into the recovery phase of Covid-19 and will need an equally charismatic and experienced Chief Constable to steer the ship. It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.”
