Commissioner Gets Inspired

Visitors to ‘Inspiring Derby’ this Saturday (28 June) will have the opportunity to meet Alan Charles, Derbyshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, who will be attending the event to meet local people and gather views on policing and priorities.

The Commissioner, his Deputy Hardyal Dhindsa and representatives from the Commissioner’s team will join the Police Experience Event in Derby Market Place as part of the county-wide Over To You consultation programme.

The Over to You survey is the county’s largest annual feedback scheme giving local people the opportunity to tell the Commissioner what they feel about policing and issues that affect their lives. Visitors are also offered crime prevention advice to help them protect themselves and their property from crime.

The annual Police Experience day is always popular and this year runs from 10am-4pm.  Officers and staff from Derbyshire Constabulary will provide information and displays on different areas of police work such as roads policing, the police dog section and police cars which will include a selection of vintage models.

Officers trained in public order policing will be displaying specialist equipment used for events where large numbers of the public are present, while Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service will be demonstrating a smoke tent.

Mr Charles said: “This is a hugely popular event, attended by individuals and families, many of whom are interested in the work of the police and emergency services.  I hope that people take the opportunity to come along, see the displays and learn more about their police service.

“We are really keen to hear what local residents feel about policing, their priorities for tackling crime and their views on community safety.  What I learn from different people, however their experience is gained, is crucial in helping me to ensure that my Police and Crime Plan reflects their needs and expectations.”

Those wishing to bring younger members of the family will find a children’s activity corner to entertain them, plus a number of quizzes with prizes for the winners.

This is one of a series of Over To You events being held across the county over the next few months.  Interim findings will be published shortly, and the full results from all the surveys will be published in December.
