In response to today's (5 December 2012) Autumn Statement, Alan Charles, the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire said: "It's unacceptable that there will be a 1% fall in corporation tax at the same time as cuts to public services. I hope that the Chancellor will ensure that the cuts to Government departments will be contained within Whitehall rather than passed down to frontline public services.
"However, I am relieved to see a letter from the Home Secretary today assuring me that she will stand by policing and support services when it comes to funding. We now await the details of the police grant later in the month, at which time we will see just how big a hill we have to climb or whether our plea for respite in this funding desert has been heard."
